Bella Noche Winter Wonderland

Posted on December 7, 2011

There are so many things I want to tell you about our Bella Noche Winter Wonderland event but before I get into any of the fun details I have to say a huge thank you to all of the amazing vendors who greatly contributed to the success of the night.  This is a group of women who never cease to amaze me with their professional attitudes, kindness and generosity.

This giving spirit was exemplified when I told them about our raffle and asked for donations to add to the gift basket.  I was overwhelmed by the huge response and the fabulous donations that poured in.  Diane was the lucky winner and walked away with over $500 worth of prizes including jewelery, art prints, handmade soaps, purses, luxurious body lotions and gift certificates.

There really was something for anyone and everyone on your Christmas shopping list. I love watching the interactions between shoppers and vendors. It’s wonderful to see so many people supporting local small businesses and artisans!!!

From Scratch Catering

During the initial planning stages of each Bella Noche Keri and I sit down to decide what charity we will be donating the proceeds to and this time it was a very quick and easy decision.  The Bethell House Hospice in Inglewood is an organization that is near and dear to both Keri and I.  This beautiful facility is run primarily on the hard work and dedication of volunteers who consistantly give 150% to the residents and their families as they deal with the final stages of terminal illness.  Please take some time to visit their website and learn more about the wonderful work that they do.

I also want to give a HUGE thank you to Amy and Devon for manning the front door, they are the smiling faces that greet you at almost every show, direct traffic, explain raffles and welcome you to Bella Noche.  And of course thank you to the talented Michelle House Wilson of Chelleshots Photography who captured so many fun moments.

And the biggest thank you of all to my partner in crime xoxo

Boudoir for Breast Cancer

Posted on October 25, 2011

A couple of months ago my friend Shelley (Shelley Heath – Professional Makeup Artist) approached me with a project that she was working on with Rebecca Hall (Rebecca Hall Photography). I was so excited when they explained the concept of the Boudoir Photo Shoot.  The day would include a series of mini photography sessions shot by the fabulous Rebecca Hall but before anyone stepped in front of the camera they would receive the star treatment…hair, makeup and jewelery to bring out the inner sex kitten.  I was on board immediately!!!!

The days leading up to the event were so much fun and kept me busy, a meet and greet for everyone involved in the project, speaking with the generous small businesses who donated their time and products to the special day and creating a time line to ensure that each participant was able to relax and enjoy the experience and the day ran smoothly for all involved.

When I arrived at Rebecca’s Studio on Sunday my jaw dropped…the girls at W Event Decor & Design had recreated the space into total luxury.

I think my favourite part of the day was seeing the enormous shift in attitude in each and every lady.  When they first walked into the studio there was a nervousness and cautiousness, then as Jade created tousled waves and sexy curls the smiles got bigger, and as Shelley and Amanda created “come hither” eyes and pouty lips there was a new sense of ease and as each woman slipped behind the curtain for her shoot we could hear the laughter and afterward stepped out with a confidence and empowerment that gave me goosebumps.  The atmosphere was fun, playful and encouraging, yummy treats and “girl talk” made for a fantastic day.

There are many types of cancer, and I don’t think anyone would ever say that one is more serious than any other or more deserving of research funds; breast cancer is something that has unfortunately touched the lives of many of the women involved with this project and although there were many different reasons why people felt compelled to participate in this fundraiser every single participant said “I wanted to do it because it’s such a great cause”.  I am so proud to say that the event raised $2160 and all proceeds will be donated.

The day could not have run smoother thanks to the amazing ladies who made up the behind the camera team.  I have to send special shout outs to Connie Raschella who coordinated each ladies outfit with her fabulous Stella & Dot jewelery, Amanda Ferri one of the amazingly talented makeup artists, Michelle House Wilson from Chelleshots Photography who was Rebecca’s second shooter and captured us behind the scenes, Jade who can create bedroom hair like no one’s business, Laura who kept us all upbeat and laughing and to everyone who donated to this amazing project!!!

The was a fun and light atmosphere, yummy treats and "girl talk" made for a fantastic day.

Most of all I have to take my hat off to Rebecca and Shelley, you ladies created a fabulous day for a fabulous cause and I’m so honoured that you asked me to be a part of it with you.  I’m so excited about the next session date…I may just be brave enough to step in front of the camera myself  :)

A Love Letter to my Husband

Posted on September 15, 2011

Many of my blog posts are about how to plan your wedding day; how to find the best photographer, how to chose what kind of reception you want, I’ve even made suggestions for  great first dance songs.  And although all of these elements are important it is also extremely important to remember that your wedding day is just one day in a lifetime to come.  Planning your wedding is fantastic preparation for your marriage … the really important part that comes after the dances have been danced, the cake has been cut and the guests have left.

In planning your wedding day there must be compromise, you have to listen to the needs and wishes of your partner, take them into consideration with every decision you make and learn to work as a compatible team.  With this in mind I write this love letter to my husband:

bride, groom, wedding photography, ceremony, wedding planner, wedding coordinator, event management, orangeville, brampton, caledon, oakville, toronto, miltonOn our 5th wedding anniversary I find myself looking back on our wedding day and how much fun we had.  I remember champagne and breakfast with the girls at the salon, I remember walking up the aisle and seeing you all dressed up and barely being able to breathe, I remember  strongly warning you against  smushing the cake in my face and I remember dancing and laughing and having the best night of my life.  But what really stands out in my mind is the promises we made to each other in front of our family and friends

There will be good times and bad, I promise to stand by you through both

I promise to support your dreams and be your biggest cheerleader and champion

There will be arguments and disagreements but I promise to work through them and never go to bed angry

I promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give.

I promise to love you completely and unconditionally

We couldn’t have known then that the commitments we made to each other that day would grow stronger and more meaningful with time.  I am so proud of our family and thankful every day to be married to the love of my life.  We have shared so many adventures and I am excited about the ones that are still to come  xoxo

Your wedding day is a very special and important event but in the bigger picture it is only the prologue in your lives together.  To many couples rush through the planning and don’t take the time to enjoy the process; make sure to keep the focus of the day on your special relationship and use the different elements of the day to reflect that.  Choose vows that mean something to the two of you, and when you say them MEAN them!!!  Take quiet moments together throughout the day to stop and absorb what this day represents; enjoy yourselves and have fun!!!!

“Multiply it by infinity, take it to the depths of forever and you’ll still only have a glimpse of how much I love you.”

Jamie & Katie Bryan

Posted on September 14, 2011

Jamie and Katie are such a special couple, they are so sweet and genuine – it would be almost impossible to find two nicer people.  I loved every minute that I got to work them and their wonderful wedding party.

On July the 9th the sun was shining and the stage was set for a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Mono Centre.  Katie and her bridesmaids were absolutely stunning  in red and despite the heat Jamie and his groomsmen looked calm, cool and collected.

Mono Centre was the beautiful setting for the reception, Jamie and Katie put so much time and thought into each element from the decor, to the music, to the delicious dinner, everything was perfectly planned

One of my favourite elements of the day was when Jamie and is band took to the stage to the rock the reception!!! They had everyone on the dance floor (myself included), it was awesome to see guests of all ages dancing and cheering the guys on.  I especially loved watching Katie sing along and rock out in her wedding gown.

I had such a wonderful time working with these two, not only on their wedding day but every step along the way.  It’s a phenomenal thing to know when you are in the presence of true love, Jamie and Katie you have such a beautiful friendship and genuine love for each other, I wish you much love and happiness in your future together.

Who says a wedding reception must be held in the evening with a formal dinner service?  Rules are meant to be broken and there are so many ways to make your reception unique and personal  Here are some ideas to consider before your next meeting with the caterer:

Breakfast/Brunch Receptionbreakfast reception, wedding reception, morning ceremony
This is an inexpensive and fun way to celebrate with your guests.  Typically held between 9am and 11am it’s a perfect bookend to a sunrise ceremony; it also allows you some flexibility when it comes to planning when you will leave on your honeymoon.  This type of reception allows you to save money not only on the food but on alcohol as well.

Consider buffet style where guests can help themselves to eggs, french toast and hash browns.  Add an omelette or crepe station where guests can customize their meal.  For a special touch offer speciality teas and coffees.

Lunch
This another option that is less expensive than a traditional dinner reception.  A lunch reception would typically occur between 11am and 3pm and therefore some couples may choose to include a champagne toast or possibly a signature drink for guests to enjoy.

One fun idea is to throw a picnic reception; even if it’s indoors you can decorate with checkered tablecloths and use picnic baskets full of goodies as the centerpiece; consider long island ice tea as your signature drink to play up the picnic feeling.

lunch reception, wedding reception, wedding planner, wedding coordinat

High Tea
This is a very elegant option that offers guests a welcome change of pace from the traditional reception and can be a little easier on the budget.  Schedule the reception for mid afternoon so that guests will know not to expect a full dinner.  Instead serve tea sandwiches, scones and cute desserts such as truffles, Petite Fours, and tarts.

As for the venue you definitely want something that fits the affair, consider a private estate with walking gardens or a romantic bed and breakfast.  This type of reception has a more intimate feeling and you want your location to foster and add to the atmosphere.  For an extra flair ask the ladies to wear a special hat befitting the occasion.

Cocktail ReceptionCocktail reception, wedding reception, speciality drink,
Cocktail receptions are becoming more and more popular; I personally love the style and elegance of this type of party.  When considering a cocktail reception keep in mind that it is not necessarily cheaper than a dinner reception; passed horderves can quickly raise your catering costs and you will have the bar fees to add to your budget.  But a cocktail reception allows your guests to mingle and tends to offer a more relaxed atmosphere; one of the great things is that the bride and groom are also able to celebrate with guests rather than sitting behind the head table.

If you are thinking about a cocktail reception you may be able to use a smaller venue as you won’t need the floor space for formal table settings.  I would urge you to look at locations that you may not have considered such as an art gallery, museum or historic location.

Dinner Reception
This type of reception is typically the most expensive.  If you chose a dinner reception there are a couple of options that you have to personalize the party.

A buffet allows your guests to select their own food from one long table or from a series of food stations strategically placed throughout the room.  You can make the buffet more formal by requesting that the food be dished out by stylishly dressed waitstaff.

A formal dinner reception has guests seated at assigned tables and served a number of courses by trained waitstaff.  This is the most traditional form of dinner service.

One my favourite styles of dinner service is the family style where platters are placed at each table, guests can then pass the platters of food to each other as in the style of a family dinner.  It’s great for stimulating conversation among your guests and really gives your reception a warm feeling of family.

Take time to think about the atmosphere you want to create; this is your day make sure it reflects you, your partner and your relationship.  Think outside the box and give your guests an experience they will talk about for years.

Come Monkey Around With Us

Posted on August 4, 2011

I will be honest and tell you that I started getting excited about planning Payton’s 2nd birthday not long after Valentines Day.  I had so many ideas but it really became  fun when I started talking to her about it and trying to explain what her birthday was all about, soon every balloon became a birthday balloon and every cake was a birthday cake – it was wonderful for her to realize that this day was going to be all about her.

I wanted to design a fun theme for her, something that she would recognize and appreciate, after our family trip to the zoo I had no doubt about what I was going to create.  She found the monkey’s absolutely hilarious so…..

It started with the invitations, I found a great template on Etsy for the mod monkey design and everything took off from there.

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor,

I used two large trees to border the sweet table; when Payton saw the trees she immediately started pointing and laughing at the monkeys that were hanging out in the branches.  Thank you to Amanda of Stampin Creations for creating these adorable little guys, Payton LOVED them!!!!  The sweet table was highlighted by a fun DIY streamer project that took the traditional party decoration from ordinary to extraordinary, for the how-to check out the MADE blog.  These were so easy and different (thank you mom for the sewing machine and lessons).

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor, mod monkey

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor,

The sweet table was a combination of delicious treats, chocolate covered pretzels that were colour coordinated to match the party theme from Deborah Keeble, homemade sparkly marshmallow pops and chocolate covered banana skewers.  The highlight was the yummy cake -banana with chocolate cream filling mmmmmm………

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor, DIY

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor,

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor,

The backyard was the perfect party hangout and the place to grab some great food, these melon balls were just what guests needed on the warm day.  And if you’ve read my blog before you know my motto is “the love is in the details” and I couldn’t resist doing personalized water bottle labels to honour our little birthday girl.

kid, child, birthday, invitation, monkey, 2nd, two, second, pink, green, party decor,

We had a wonderful day full of family and friends, thank you to everyone who celebrated with us.  A very special thank you to Femke for capturing these special moments for us, you’ve been a huge part of Payton’s life since day 1 and you have a very special place in her heart.

When I was pregnant everyone told me to cherish every moment with Payton as they go by so quickly and they couldn’t have been more right.  It is incredible to consider all the ways she has touched our hearts and changed our lives in only 2 years.  Her father and I are so proud of the person she is growing up to be – fun, adventurous, curious, affectionate, daring, and compassionate.  Love you bug!!!!

A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future.

Jeremy & Heather

Posted on July 26, 2011

Working with Heather and Jeremy was any wedding planners dream! They were so organized and knew exactly what they wanted.  The best part was how they worked as a team, the love and affection they have for one another is utterly apparent whenever they are together.

Everything about their wedding was well designed and elegant.  The pewter grey of the bridesmaids dresses was beautiful against the pink peonies (which have since become one of my favourite blooms). The dining room twinkled with candlelight while guests were invited  to browse the personal pictures of the stunning couple that were placed throughout the room while being treated to the sound of a trio of strings that added to the intimate atmosphere.

King Valley Golf Course offered a gorgeous backdrop and accentuated the cottage theme which was displayed in everything from the invitations and menus to the cigar lounge on the patio made up of Adirondack chairs and a small fire pit.

As the reception kicked into high gear the bride and her bridesmaids quickly did away with their high heels and donned white flip flops which made it easier to dance the night away.

It was wonderful to see both the bride and grooms families so involved in the planning and execution of this beautiful day and I have no doubt that the love Jeremy and Heather share combined with the support of their families will lead to a long and happy marriage.

Shawn & Melissa

Posted on June 28, 2011

I adored Shawn and Melissa from the moment I met them.  They are so warm and welcoming and I instantly felt like an old friend, it truly was a pleasure to be able to participate in their big day on May 28th, 2011.

The one thing that stands out about Melissa is her infectious laugh.  It didn’t matter what we were talking about if she started laughing it was inevitable that I would break down in laughter as well.  Her relaxed attitude carried her through the morning of the wedding – when I met her and the ladies at the salon I was relieved to see a room full of smiles and laughter despite the heavy fog and dreary weather outside.

Adorable flower girl Amber

As seems to the trend this summer the afternoon turned out to be gorgeous, the fog lifted and the humidity disappeared just in time for the bride to exit the limo at the church.  The ceremony took place in an adorable church in Erin Ontario, it was a very intimate and beautiful ceremony conducted by one of the funniest pastors I’ve ever met Fr. Joseph Kelly.

When Melissa told me that her cousin would be decorating the hall I have to admit I was a little scared.  But when I saw the jaw dropping display Mimi had created I understood why Melissa had trusted her cousin with such a huge responsibility.  The blending of the black and white with accents of green were perfect!!!  What an amazing gift for Shawn and Melissa.

Scott & Alicia MacArthur

Posted on June 6, 2011

It was such a wonderful experience to work with Scott and Alicia; they had a beautiful vision for their wedding day and with the help of many talented and generous vendors we were able to turn that vision into reality.

The morning of April 30th started out foggy and gloomy.   I visited the girls in the morning and was impressed with how calm they all were, sitting around drinking coffee and playing on Facebook.  Loved seeing their smiles and hearing about their excitement for the day to come.  It wasn’t long after I left Alicia’s house that the clouds cleared and the sun came out to bless the day.

Alicia looked absolutely stunning, I love this shot of her in the limo before the ceremony.
